Bekap Myanmar, U-23 National Team Ensure a Place in the Semifinals

The VICTORY was obtained by the U-23 Indonesian national team in the final match of the Group A men’s soccer match for the 2021 SEA Games against Myanmar, at the Viet Tri Stadium, Sunday (15/5). The victory with a score of 3-1 ensured that Indonesia qualified for the semifinals.

Indonesia was able to take the lead when the game had only been running for six minutes. Egy Maulana Vikri listed his name on the scoreboard, after maximizing the rebound. In the 10th minute, it was Witan Sulaeman’s turn to take Indonesia away. Ricky Kambuaya’s pass was able to be completed by Witan to change the score to 2-0.

At the end of the first half, Indonesia increased the advantage to 3-0. This time it was Marselino Ferdinand’s turn to list his name on the scoreboard.

In the second half, the performance of U-23 national team goalkeeper Ernando Ari really deserves appreciation. The Persebaya Surabaya goalkeeper repeatedly made important saves. Ernando only once failed to keep his goal from conceding when he was unable to block Win Naing Tun’s 66th minute kick.

With this victory, Indonesia ensured a ticket to the semi-finals. Indonesia is currently in the top position of Group A with 9 points.

However, it is not certain whether Egy and his friends will qualify as Group A champions or not. Vietnam, which has also confirmed its qualification, is currently in second place with 7 points. If they win against Timor Leste in the last match of Group A qualifiers, Vietnam will advance to the semifinals as the winner of Group A while Indonesia will be the runner up.
