Benzema’s Appeal Trial Regarding Sex Videos Held June-July

The appeal filed by Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema of his sentence of 1 year probation in an attempt to blackmail his former France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena using a sex video will be held from 30 June to 1 July.

Benzema was also fined 75 thousand euros in that case.

The verdict for the 2015 blackmail attempt, which saw Benzema exiled from the French national team for 5.5 years, proved more complicated than prosecutors had expected.

Benzema was not charged with attempted extortion but conspired with the extortionists to force Valbuena to pay the requested money.

The court in Versailles underlined that Benzema engaged in extortion through deceit and lies to convince the victim to pay the extortionists.

The court added that Benzema showed no mercy to Valbuena and instead was happy with his partner’s suffering. (AFP/OL-1)
