Controlling 49% of ball distribution, Bilbao made 11 attempts, two of which were on target, including Mikel Vesga’s 47th-minute shot that was blocked by the home goalkeeper.

This chance came moments after Sergio Canales tried to double for Real Betis, maxing out Nabil Fekir’s assist but his shot was saved by Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Just over half an hour later, Fekir was shown a straight red card in the 80th minute leaving Betis down to 10 men.

But Bilbao failed to use a one-man gap to equalize despite their continued pressure on the hosts in the last 10 minutes, including from two chances created by Oier Zarraga in the last two minutes.

Betis have now accumulated 49 points to occupy fourth place in the La Liga standings or one point above Barcelona, which dropped to fifth but has the chance to rise again even to third place if they win over Osasuna, Monday (14/3) early morning WIB.

Athletic Bilbao remain in eighth with 40 points. (Ant/OL-1)
