Coach Disappointed PSM Failed To Anticipate Persija’s Free Kick

PSM TRAINER Joop Gall regretted that his players failed to anticipate Persija’s free kick when the two teams met in the 2021-2022 Indonesian League 1 continued match at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Stadium, Denpasar, Bali, Monday (21/3) night.

Two free kicks, executed by Syahrian Abhimanyu, started Persija’s goal. PSM also lost with a score of 1-3.

“The free kick made the score 1-1. Then in the second half, Persija’s free kick didn’t seem to touch anyone. It was too easy to get into the goal and make the result 3-1. Of course this disappointed us. I’m not satisfied because actually we had control of the game,” Gall said in a virtual post-match press conference.

PSM took the lead in the match thanks to Yakob Sayuri’s goal in the 15th minute.

However, Persija equalized through Makan Konate (34′) who snatched a wild ball from Syahrian Abimanyu’s free kick.

Irfan Jauhari then scored the second goal in the 45th minute, before Ikhwan Ciptady sealed Persija’s 3-1 victory thanks to a goal which again came from Syahrian Abimanyu’s free kick (59′).

Irfan Jaya’s goal, according to Gall, could not be separated from the mistakes of his players who did not close Syahrian Abhimanyu’s space in midfield.

That made Syahrian able to release a breakthrough bait from the inner sector which Irfan was able to maximize into goals.

According to Gall, Persija’s goals made the psychological condition of the players decrease and they seemed not enthusiastic about continuing the match.

“It’s psychologically tough for us. The players also looked downcast as if they didn’t want to receive the ball again after the third goal,” said the Dutch tactician.

PSM winger, Saldi, was disappointed with the defeat to Persija which made PSM not safe from the threat of relegation.

“On behalf of my friends, I apologize to the PSM Makassar supporters for this result,” said the 26-year-old footballer.

The defeat to Persija made PSM stuck in 13th place in the 2021-2022 Indonesian Liga 1 standings with a collection of 35 points from 32 matches. This situation has not made PSM safe from the threat of degradation.

While Persija rose to seventh position in the standings after collecting 44 points from 32 matches. (Ant/OL-1)
