Conte says he doesn’t hesitate to drop Spurs star

ANTONIO Conte has warned Tottenham Hotspur players that he has no qualms about dropping them from the first squad. This was said by the Italian coach after Spurs performed poorly in the Champions League match that lost at home to Sporting Lisbon.

The Lillywhites suffered their first loss in eight games in all competitions after Sporting scored twice in injury time to snatch a 2-0 win on Wednesday (14/9) CET.

Although Spurs performed well before losing in Portugal, there are concerns about the decline in the form of their mainstay striker Son Heung Min.

Son has failed to score this season after being the Premier League’s top scorer last season.

Harry Kane also missed a number of chances at Sporting and Conte was quick to say he would not tolerate a series of poor performances, including that of his signature player.

“There is no player who cannot be excluded from the first team. I have stated that unequivocally,” Conte said, Friday (16/9).

“I say this to protect my players and give them the opportunity to always be in top shape.”

“Champions League games are always important games. Therefore, I need all my players ready.”

“All my players have to be ready to rotate at all times. When I ask them to play, they have to be ready and give the best performance, both for the team, for the fans and for everyone,” he continued.

Conte then admitted that he was happy to see Spurs players angry with the defeat at Sporting and asked them to use that anger to get up when Spurs hosted Leicester City in the Premier League match on Saturday (17/9).

“For that defeat, we have to be a little angry and react because now we are going to play a game in the Premier League. It was very important for us to win,” Conte said.

“We will face Leicester with Brendan Rodgers, who is a great coach, who won many victories throughout his career. Therefore, we have to be really ready,” he concluded. (AFP/OL-1)
