From this fort, this is the forerunner of the capital city of Semarang Regency

Jakarta

Fort Willem II is said to have a close relationship with the forerunner of the name Ungaran City. That said, the name Ungaran is taken from another name for the fort, Oenarang.

Based on detikJateng observation, the architecture of the building looks unique with colonial heritage. Fort Willem II is still solid in the middle of Ungaran City. The entrance opposite the highway used to be the back door of this fort.

Seen beside the entrance is a portrait of Prince Willem made of copper. Then next to it lies a monument to the inauguration that this fort was used in partnership between the police and the community.

To the left of the entrance there is also a painting of the fortress of Willem II which looks beautiful. This fort consists of several main buildings. The first building has two floors. The lower floor is used as a meeting room. While the second floor is used as a police dormitory.

Going deeper, we will find a central courtyard which is used as a meeting room. Then on the right side there is a pavilion that looks like a relief from Willem II’s own fort. Then on the right there is a building that is used as a bathroom and prayer room.

Turn to the very back which was actually the front of this fort. The Fort Willem II complex looks clean and well-maintained, painted in white with wooden frames painted in dark brown.

The Semarang Regency Cultural Heritage Expert Team, Tri Subekso, explained that this fort was once a meeting place between colonial and indigenous officials. However, the construction of the fort which was formerly known as Ontmoeting Fort is still a matter of debate.

“Fort Willem II Ungaran actually has another name if you look at the document called Ontmoeting or a place where people meet if you look at its history as a meeting place between colonial officials and also between indigenous officials, and many things,” he told reporters, Saturday (14/10). /2022).
