Garuda Nusantara squad asked to appear aggressive when facing Vietnam

The Indonesian U-20 team is one step away from qualifying for the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup. The Garuda Nusantara squad will play their final Group F match against Vietnam which is scheduled to take place at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, Sunday (18/9).

Both teams are having the upper hand. The Indonesian and Vietnamese U-20 teams managed to wipe out the previous two matches with convincing wins.

Indonesia and Vietnam both won with a score of 4-0 and 5-1 in two matches in the preliminary round, this condition also made Indonesia obliged to win against Vietnam to come out as group winners.

Talking about the fight against Vietnam, Indonesia U-20 Team Coach Shin Tae-yong said the fight would be very different from the previous two matches against Timor Leste and Hong Kong. Therefore, the South Korean coach ensures that the Garuda Nusantara squad must prepare themselves well.

“Vietnam is different from Timor Leste and Hong Kong. They have different qualities and mobility from the previous two teams. So we have to prepare well so that we can win,” said Shin Tae-yong in PSSI’s official statement, Saturday (17/9). ).

Mentioned by the 51-year-old coach, high aggressiveness is one of the important things that his squad must display in the match against Vietnam, he also asked the Indonesian U-20 team to fight harder in the match later.

“We have to be more aggressive in the next game and definitely have to try harder to win,” he said.

Indonesia’s failure to advance to the semifinals in the 2022 AFF U-19 Cup some time ago still seems to be true in Shin Tae-yong’s heart. At that time, Indonesia questioned the sportsmanship in the Thailand vs Vietnam match, which seemed to play it safe to prevent Indonesia from winning the Final ticket.

Again dealing with Vietnam, Shin Tae-yong also brought a mission of revenge in the fight. “Indeed, at the AFF U-19 Cup Vietnam and Thailand played unsportsmanlike and Indonesia was disadvantaged by them. But today at home we need to take revenge on them,” he said.

He also asked Indonesian supporters to attend in person at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, to support the Garuda Nusantara squad and make Indonesia’s mission of revenge a success.

“We really hope the arrival of supporters at the stadium. We want to avenge the results of the AFF U-19 Cup,” he said.

It can be seen, if tomorrow the Indonesia vs Vietnam match ends in a draw or draw with any score automatically the difference and the aggregate goals are still the same. Then the match will proceed to the penalty round.

Meanwhile, if Indonesia loses, then the Garuda Nusantara squad is in the runner-up position in Group F and will wait for the results of the other groups to determine who will come out as the best runner-up. As is known, only the 10 group winners and the 5 best runners-up teams have the right to qualify for Uzbekistan. (PSSI/OL-4)
