AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud insists he is not obsessed with Thierry Henry’s goalscoring record for the French national team. Giroud has now scored 48 goals for Les Bleus, only three behind Arsenal legend Henry.
Giroud, who is returning to the national team for the first time since the Euros, has scored twice in his last two games for France, against Ivory Coast and South Africa.
“I’m scoring goals again and I always try to give something more when I play. Antoine Griezmann provided a good assist, and I did my best to turn it into a goal,” Giroud said after France’s match against South Africa.
“I’m happy and I’m closer to Henry’s record. It’s in my head, but it’s not my obsession. If I have to pass the ball, I do it. I think about the team first, then the record, “he added.
France coach Didier Deschamps cannot guarantee Giroud will be called up for the next match. Giroud was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in Russia.
Giroud’s performance at club level is also good. The former Chelsea and Arsenal striker has scored 11 goals in 29 appearances for AC Milan this 2021/22 season, including two against Inter Milan and one against Napoli. (Goal/OL-15)
