The reason its there is so the pcv system only sucks in metered air. The flow of air is not into the intake from valve cover via the breather hose. I figured it would add heat to the air.

I got less oil inside intake hose and throttle body. As you can see the system begins in the intake pipe where air enters a hose that is attached to a barbed fitting on the valve cover.

If you replace it with a filter it will work, but it will offset the a/f slightly under certain conditions when the pcv is actually in vaccum i would imagine. The hose from the valve cover is part of the pcv system.
