Joan Mir, Brad Binder, and Franco Morbidelli were surprised by the character of the Mandalika Circuit which turned out to have extraordinary grip. They felt it during the racing session (20/3) which took place in the middle of a wet track condition.
The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia (MotoGP Mandalika) was successfully held with full of drama, starting from the heavy rain, the action of the rain handler, to the reduction of laps from 27 laps to 20 laps.
On the positive side, some riders feel that the Mandalika Circuit has extraordinary traction, so that their motorcycle tires are very bite on the asphalt even though the track conditions are wet.

“In wet conditions, the track was amazing,” Mir said Crash.
“My elbows touched every corner of the track. And I was like, ‘is this wet?!’ Excellent grip on the track and also the Michelin tires work very well on the wet track. In fact I think we will be able to race a full 27 laps, “continued the Suzuki Ecstar rider.
In line with Joan Mir, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Franco Morbidelli (Monster Energy Yamaha) also expressed the same opinion.
“I found the grip crazy in some areas,” said Binder.
While specifically for Morbidelli, apart from the extremely grippy Mandalika track, he also highlighted the extremely wet track conditions, with a lot of water on the track mixed with dirt and dust, causing serious visibility problems.
“It was difficult out there because the visibility was zero. Luckily the track was quite grippy. So it was a good surprise. I still hit some rocks, but it was much worse in the test,” explained Morbidelli.
In the midst of these extreme conditions, the Mandalika MotoGP which was held at Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on March 18-20, 2022 was successfully held. Only Jorge Martin, a MotoGP racer, had a crash on race day. Miguel Oliveira successfully won the Mandalika Circuit, followed by Fabio Quartararo in second place, and Johann Zarco in third place.
