Jakarta

Jonathan Rea, a Kawasaki Racing Team rider, admitted that his hopes of becoming a world champion have not been dashed. But it’s so difficult, because Alvaro Bautista and Toprak Razgatlioglu are doing well.

Ahead of the WSBK at the Mandalika International Circuit, Rea realized that the world champion’s chances were getting further and further away. In the midst of these difficult conditions, his target is now simple: just want to finish in front.

“World Superbike (2022) is very competitive, we can see especially Ducati, how fast they are. With (arrival of) Alvaro Bautista, coming from MotoGP, Yamaha and then yes, we are fighting with everything. We have a very extraordinary team, a team great design, and great manufacturing,” said Rea during a meet and greet in Central Jakarta, Monday (8/11/2022).

Rea admitted that he was ready to ride the ZX-10R in the Mandalika World Superbike series, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia on November 11-13, 2022. Last season, he also managed to win two victories in the first and second races.

“Both Alex and I have fought really hard and I feel this weekend we can be strong, try to finish the season strongly. For me to win to win this year’s competition is not impossible, but yes (the chances are) far away. The key is to try. finish as early as possible,” he added.

This British rider is in the third WSBK 2022 standings with 409 points. Above him is Toprak Razgatlioglu, who has collected 425 points, and Alvaro Bautista has 507 points.

The opportunity for world champion Rea has not disappeared, because there are still 126 points up for grabs at the Mandalika Circuit. In addition, there is also a closing series held in Australia.

Rea’s dominance in WSBK stopped in 2021 which was taken by Toprak. Rea has won six times in a row with the Kawasaki team in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Don’t want to disturb Bautista and Toprak in Mandalika

Rea had no intention of disturbing Bautista and Toprak while racing at the Mandalika WSBK. The focus is only on gaining success on this 4.4 kilometer circuit.

“About making Toprak and Alvaro’s life more difficult during the race, I didn’t think about it, I just tried to forget their existence and focus on myself,” he said.

“I know if I focus on the bike and myself, we can fight for the win, it’s that simple,” added Rea.
