Lacazette’s contract discussed at the end of the season

French striker Alexandre Lacazette’s future with Arsenal will be decided after this season ends. This was conveyed by coach Mikel Arteta in a press conference ahead of the Premier League match against Leicester City on Sunday (11/3).

Lacazette’s contract at the Emirates Stadium has only four months remaining. The departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona makes Lacazette the only senior striker at Arsenal.

“We have discussed it (Lacazette’s contract) and we have opened it at the end of the season, once we know where we are we will make a decision together,” Arteta told reporters.

“The decision, we agreed, was to do it in the summer and we will do it as soon as the season is over.”

Lacazette has scored just three goals in 20 league appearances this season, but he has contributed by providing seven assists.

“I think he’s a little bit more scoring goals and that’s why we have to keep pushing him and giving him support so he plays with that confidence and hopefully on Sunday he can do it.”

Arsenal, who are fourth in the table, picked up a 3-2 win away at Watford last weekend and are looking to extend their winning streak to five games against Leicester City. (OL-8)
