Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio was called up on Sunday to replace the injured Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the Italy national team for the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs.
Di Lorenzo, who has 19 caps for the Azzurri, limped off the pitch after suffering a knee injury while defending Napoli’s 2-1 win over Udinese in Serie A, Saturday (19/3).
After undergoing an examination on Sunday (20/3), the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced that Di Lorenzo could not appear for the national team and was sent back to his club.
