Messi and Neymar become targets of ridicule by PSG supporters

A LOT of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans booed superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar throughout the Ligue 1 match during the 3-0 win against Bordeaux. The match was only three days after the loss of Les Parisiens from the Champions League by Real Madrid.

They feel that Messi and Neymar have failed to bring about change at PSG, especially in the Champions League.

For Messi, being booed was unprecedented in his career. Even in the bad moments that rarely happen with Argentina.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner arrived from Barcelona on a free transfer given that his contract had expired. When Messi arrived in Paris, Les Parisien fans greeted him with joy. The streets of Paris are filled with fans who harbor hopes of seeing their favorite team win the Champions League trophy with Messi.

Unfortunately, the performances shown by Lionel Messi so far have not looked like they used to. His seven goals and 11 assists from 26 matches are not bad, but not something one would expect from someone like him.

Even more painful, Messi failed to help PSG survive in the Champions League. The club’s move made by Mauricio Pochettino was stuck in the round of 16 after losing to Real Madrid with an aggregate score of 2-3.

PSG coach, Mauricio Pochettino, was disappointed by the fans’ actions and felt the ridicule affected his team.

“Everyone who loves PSG is sad after Madrid’s disappointment. I am saddened by what I went through today,” he said.

“Messi and Neymar? We are all affected, we understand the disappointment and frustration, which we share together. But we are responsible. We just have to accept it as a team and we will be united until the end,” he said. (Mal/AFP)
