Mitsubishi doesn’t want to get involved in producing a compact SUV

Jakarta

It is suspected that the Indonesian automotive industry will continue to grow in line with the public’s need for vehicles. Even the automotive market itself seems to be changing, it is predicted that the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) family car will no longer be the most favorite vehicle in Indonesia and will be replaced by the compact role of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

At least the signs of this shift can be seen from the increasing competition in the compact SUV class. Which only appeared last year and immediately hit the market, of course the Toyota Raize and Mitsubishi Rocky.

Will PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) enter the same niche? As stated by the President Director of PT MMKSI, Naoya Nakamura during the Mitsubishi 2022 Gathering, Mitsubishi will not automatically participate in producing a compact SUV.

“Regarding compact SUVs, this is indeed increasing now. However, our product strategy steps are not responding to what is currently developing, but far ahead of the current market or trend. We will think about what other more advanced products will be introduced. people like it,” said Naoya.

Then what other product models will Mitsubishi introduce in Indonesia?

“We can’t announce it right now. We will certainly announce it soon to our friends if there is a launch schedule,” said Naoya.

Over the past year, MMKSI managed to record positive achievements for retail sales of Mitsubishi Motors passenger and light commercial vehicles in Indonesia. Sales achievement in 2021 increased by 90.6% compared to 2020.
