AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho admitted his team was lucky to beat Vitesse 1-0 in the first leg of the Conference League last 16, Friday (11/3) early morning WIB.
Sergio Oliveira scored the goal for the Giallorossi just before half-time after his long-range shot was denied by Vitesse goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen.
Mourinho admitted his team did not deserve to lead 1-0 when the first half ended. They performed poorly, but began to show improvement in the second half.
“I admit we didn’t deserve to go into half-time to go 1-0 up. We didn’t do anything to score that goal, we had problems and were lucky, but we did much better in the second half,” Mourinho said.
This was the third consecutive 1-0 win for Roma in all competitions. Previously Roma also beat Atalanta and Spezia. In those two matches, Roma’s goals were each scored by Tammy Abraham. Mourinho said Roma can now play more pragmatically.
“We may have more stability now, we have an almost full squad for the first time in a long time,” Mourinho said.
“We are more solid, we have more solutions, we understand each other more, are more pragmatic. Even in a difficult moment today, the team reacted,” he continued.
