Owner of American Baseball Club Interested in Buying Chelsea

The owners of the American baseball club Chicago Cubs, the Ricketts family and billionaire Ken Griffin have all confirmed their bid to buy Chelsea before the March 18 deadline.

Through a consortium, they will make a formal offer for the Blues ahead of the Friday deadline this week. Chelsea continues to attract potential buyers amid sanctions imposed by the British government on its owner, Roman Abramovich.

“The Ricketts family, the owners of the Chicago Cubs, can confirm they will lead the investment group that will make a formal bid for Chelsea Football Club this Friday,” the Ricketts family wrote in a statement.

“As operators of iconic professional sports teams, the Ricketts Family and partners understand the importance of investing for success on the pitch, while respecting the traditions of the club, fans and community.”

“We hope to provide more details regarding our plans in due course.”

The Ricketts are not the only potential buyers for Chelsea as British luxury property entrepreneur Nick Candy, considered the strongest candidate to acquire the London club, and MMA star Conor McGregor.

Turkish tourism, construction and cryptocurrency entrepreneur Muhsin Bayrak has reportedly met Abramovich to discuss a purchase agreement.

Chelsea has also been approached by potential Middle Eastern buyers spearheaded by Mohamed Alkhereiji who runs Saudi Media and CEO of parent company Engineer Holding Group. (OL-8)
