Persija Signs the Most Fertile PON Papua Attacker


The Indonesian Liga 1 team Persija has officially recruited Ricky Ricardo Cawor, the most fertile striker in the 2021 PON, Papua, with 11 goals, to increase the quality of the squad in the 2022-2023 Liga 1 season.

Quoted from Persija’s statement in Jakarta, Friday (13/5), the footballer from Merakuke, Papua, was contracted for three years and became the Kemayoran Tigers’ fifth new player after Firza Andika, Hanif Sjahbandi, Hansamu Yama, and Barnabas Sobor.

“My target is to be able to give the best for the team, which is to bring Persija to the top,” said Ricky.

The player who strengthens Persipura in the 2021-2022 Indonesian League 1 admitted that he was surprised to get an offer to join from Persija.

However, he finally accepted the request after consulting with his coach at PON Papua, who is also a national football legend, Eduard Ivakdalam.

“Coach Eduard supported me. He said Persija was a good team and because of that I was interested in joining,” said Ricky.

The man who had played for PS Gelora Putra FC Merauke (2011-2016), Persimer Merauke (2017), and Persemi Mimika (2018) considered Persija as a big team so that gave him a challenge.

“Before Persija there were actually several teams that bid. But I saw Persija as better. Persija is a big team and it challenged me to be a part of this club. In fact, I never imagined I could join a big team like Persija. This is a dream come true, ” said Ricky.

Meanwhile, regarding the high hopes of Persija supporters, The Jakmania, for all team personnel in every season, Ricky, who led the Papuan men’s soccer team to win the 2021 Papua PON gold medal, emphasized that he was ready to make it happen.

“In my opinion, the expectations given by The Jak to players must be accepted. Players must answer their expectations. I am determined to give the best for Persija,” said the 24-year-old player. (Ant/OL-1)
