TRAINER Persija Sudirman said that his team’s target in the Indonesian League 1 for the 2022-2023 season depends on the new coach that will be appointed by management.
In a virtual press conference last Saturday night, Sudirman himself has not confirmed that he will continue to coach Persija next season.
The 52-year-old was appointed by Macan Kemayoran to coach the squad from January 2022 until the end of the 2021-2022 season after replacing Italian coach Angelo Alessio.
Sudirman failed to meet the target of bringing Persija to complete the Indonesian League 1 this season at least the top three standings with only a maximum of seventh position.
Persija young left-back Iham Rio Fahmi insists they want to win next season.
“All teams want to be champions. For this season, we were unlucky because many games we should have won but the results were not good,” said the 20-year-old footballer.
Persija have one last match of the Liga 1 season against PSS next Thursday. If they win or draw in the match, Persija will lock the seventh place in the final standings of Liga 1 this season.
However, if they lose, the Kemayoran Tigers can drop to eighth place because, until the 33rd week they were only two points away from the team below, PSIS. (Ant/OL-13)
