Pochettino’s name until Tuchel linked with Aston Villa

ASTON Villa have sacked their coach Steven Gerrard after another bad result. Gerrard was dismissed after Villa swallowed a 0-3 defeat at Fulham headquarters in the English Premier League continued, Friday (21/10) early morning.

After the game, Gerrard got cheers from the Villa fans who were angry because of the team’s poor performance. The defeat to Fulham also extended their winless run to four matches.

Throughout the beginning of this season, Gerrard was only able to record two wins from 11 matches.

Villa, in the Premier League standings, are now on the edge of the relegation zone with nine points or only a narrow goal difference ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers who are in third bottom.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Gerrard promised to work hard to lift Villa to save his position.

“I am a fighter, I will never quit anything whether it is football or in life. We will see what happens. I will continue to fight unless I am told different (decisions),” he said.

However, minutes after Gerrard spoke to the media, Villa announced the sacking of the former Rangers coach.

“Aston Villa can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.”

“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him all the best for the future,” the club said in a statement.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino has now been linked with the vacant position.

Former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel and former Burnley boss Sean Dyche have also been tipped as candidates.

In 2021, Gerrard successfully brought the Scottish League title as Rangers coach. However, he has struggled to build on that success since moving to Villa Park, November last year. (AFP/OL-1)
