PSM Targets Persija to Survive in League 1

PSM is determined to beat Persija when the two teams compete on Monday (21/3) at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Stadium, Denpasar, Bali to ensure that they survive in the Indonesian League 1.

“Our goal is to win the game and ensure our place in Liga 1 next season. If that’s the case, we will be more relaxed for the rest of the next match,” said PSM coach Joop Gall in a virtual press conference before the match, followed in Jakarta, Sunday (20/3). )

PSM, according to the Dutch tactician, will fight at all costs to not be kicked out of Liga 1.

Joop believes his players can do this because they are considered to have a strong mentality.

This can be seen from the results of PSM’s last five matches which went without defeat. From these matches, PSM earned one win and four draws.

They achieved these results after always losing in four matches.

“It’s not easy for a team that always loses (from four matches-red) to be unbeaten in the next five games. It shows we have an extraordinary mentality,” said Joop.

PSM is currently in 13th position in the Liga 1 standings this season with 35 points from 31 matches.

They are still overshadowed by Persipura, who have collected 30 points from 32 matches and are in 16th place, aka the relegation zone.

If Persipura win their two remaining matches and PSM always loses in the last three matches, then the “Juku Eja” squad has the potential to fall into Liga 2 next season.

That is, just three points from the last three matches will make PSM safe from relegation.

PSM midfielder Willem Jan Pluim also emphasized that he and his team-mates will work hard to beat Persija.

“The match against Persija is special. We want to win,” said Pluim. (OL-8)
