Pulisic Hattrick, America One Step Again to Qatar World Cup

The United States National Team won 5-1 over Panama in the Concacaf zone World Cup qualifying playoffs, Monday (28/3) morning WIB. The American captain, Christian Pulisic, performed brilliantly, scoring a hat-trick and bringing his team closer to stepping into Qatar.

Playing at the Exploria Stadium, Orlando, the Chelsea player was the inspiration to score two goals through penalties in the 17th and 45th minutes. He scored his third goal in the 65th minute beautifully controlling the ball while twisting and outwitting two defenders. The hat-trick was Pulisic’s first in the national team.

Two other American goals were created by Paul Arriola in the 23rd minute and Jesus Ferreira in the 27th minute while Anibal Godoy’s Panama goal was scored by Anibal Godoy in the 86th minute.

“It feels great to score a hat-trick, of course because it’s my first hat-trick with the national team. But more importantly to help the team win and put us in a good position with one game to go,” Pulisic said.

The victory brought America closer to qualifying for the World Cup finals. In the standings, they are in second place behind Canada who have already confirmed their place in Qatar.

In the last match against Costa Rica, America only needed to play a draw. Even if you lose, you still qualify with a record of no more than six goals. Costa Rica is currently in fourth place in the standings, three points clear of America in second.

“Of course we can enjoy tonight, but the work is not done. We have one more game that is very important and we take it very seriously. We have to finish this job,” added the 23-year-old.

Costa Rica also managed to record a victory over El Salvador 1-2 through goals from Anthony Contreras and Joel Campbell.

In another match, Mexico narrowly won 0-1 from Honduras. The only goal was created by Edsol Alvares in the 70th minute. Mexico is in third place with the same points as America.

The top three teams in the Central and North America qualifying zones will immediately qualify for the 2022 World Cup, while the fourth-placed team will play a further playoff against the representatives of Oceania. (AFP/Goals/OL-13)
