AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho stressed that his team is currently focused on the match against Vitesse in the second leg of the Conference League at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Friday (18/3)
Quoted from the club’s official website, Thursday (17/3), Mourinho said he was reluctant to think about the match against Lazio in the Italian League this weekend. He wants to focus first on the match against Vitesse.
“The only game that interests us now is the match against Vitesse tomorrow. If we win if we draw, then we go to the quarter-finals. If we lose then we fall,” said Mourinho.
“Lazio didn’t get into it, it’s not Sunday’s game. The only game I’m interested in is this one now.”
The Portuguese coach continued that AS Roma would try to win the match against Vitesse and did not want to think about drawing their opponent in the quarter-finals.
“We know that a draw tomorrow is enough to get us through. But we are not going to play for a draw. We want to win. When it’s your attitude, you don’t worry too much about the aggregate situation. We will see how it goes,” said Mourinho.
Furthermore, Mourinho explained, in the second leg match against Vitesse, AS Roma had to lose two players, namely Sergio Oliviera and Gianluca Mancini due to card accumulation.
In addition, Mourinho also reported that one of the strikers Henrikh Mkhitaryan could play against Vitesse, especially the player from Armenina is an important part of AS Roma’s body.
In this match, AS Roma only needed a draw to ensure themselves qualify for the quarter-finals of the Conference League after beating Vitesse 1-0 in the first leg thanks to a goal from Sergio Oliviera. (OL-8)
