Romero Takes Lazio to Second Place in the Serie A Standings

Teenager Luka Romero’s first goal in a Serie A match, Friday (11/11), led Lazio to overcome Monza 1-0 which also made the capital team overtake AC Milan to second place in the standings.

Monza put the ball into Lazio’s goal through Andrea Petagna’s heel, but it was ruled out for offside.

Andrea Colpani tested Ivan Provedel from distance and then provided the assist for Petagna, who heeled the ball into the net. However, the goal in the 13th minute was disallowed for offside.

The deadlock was broken when Romero’s debut was marked by a goal just eight days before his 18th birthday.

Toma Basic played a drag ball towards Pedro who fired in a shot which goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio saved and Romero was the quickest to react to grab a rebound ball for him to score.

He is also the second youngest Lazio player to score in a Serie A match after Alessandro Capponi, who was 17 years and 129 days old, during a 2-1 win over Lucchese, December 1936.

Danilo Cataldi threatened to double the score but his shot was too weak so Di Gregorio came to block the ball to block Felipe Anderson’s movement. (Ant/OL-1)
