Ronaldo calls the match against North Macedonia a game of life and death

The World Cup playoff against North Macedonia was seen by Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo as a game of life and death.

The Manchester United player is hoping to qualify for a fifth World Cup with Portugal and open the door to lifting the World Cup trophy for the first time at the age of 37.

The winner of the match between Portugal and North Macedonia, which will be played in Porto, will earn a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“The team is quite confident and I feel that all the players are ready,” Ronaldo said at a press conference on Monday (28/3).

“For us, this match is a game of life and death. We realize how important this match is and I will take this opportunity to ask the supporters to provide full support for us,” continued the player nicknamed CR7.

North Macedonia made a surprise encounter with Portugal after getting rid of it with a narrow 1-0 win.

“We will face North Macedonia and many people think they are easy opponents,”: Ronaldo said.

“I think tomorrow’s game will be very tough because North Macedonia are here because they deserve it.”

“They are an organized team. However, if Portugal are at their best, they can beat any team in the world,” he said.

Ronaldo, the leading goalscorer in international football, will be 41 at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

However, the Portugal captain refused to confirm that the Qatar World Cup would be his last.

“The one who will decide my future is me. If I still want to play, I will play. If not, no. Period,” said Ronaldo. (AFP/OL-1)
