CRISTIANO Ronaldo could not strengthen Manchester United for the second game in a row when Tottenham Hotspur visit Old Trafford, Sunday (13/3) early morning WIB. However, United’s interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, may well follow his forward’s advice to help secure victory in order to remain competitive in the Premier League’s top four.
According to The Athletic, Ronaldo is surprisingly not afraid to speak his mind in the United dressing room. In February, he told Rangnick that playing two strikers together would be the best way to serve him and the team.
Against Man City, Rangnick carried a 4-2-3-1 formation. He appointed Anthony Elanga to replace Ronaldo as the main striker.
Manchester United claimed that Ronaldo had a hip injury at the time. However, rumors say CR7 is in a fit condition and ready to play. Ronaldo reportedly chose to return to Portugal because he was disappointed with Rangnick’s decision to put him on the bench in the match at the Etihad Stadium.
Rangnick could be wise to stick with a two-forward system against Antonio Conte’s side after United beat Tottenham at the start of last season.

The Red Devils won 3-0 in north London in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s last win as manager and Nuno Espirito Santo as Spurs manager. At that time, Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were the spearheads and both scored one goal each before Marcus Rashford added a third.
Ronaldo’s availability is likely to be a determining factor in whether Rangnick opts for a two-striker system. While Cavani will not be fit enough to play the whole game.
Ronaldo also sent a signal to Rangnick via his Instagram account that he was ready to play. The 37-year-old player has attended a training session on Wednesday (9/3) local time.
“Hard work towards a strong recovery. Want to get back on the pitch and help the team,” wrote Ronaldo.
The match against Tottenham is a very crucial match in the competition for a place in the top four standings. Manchester United are currently in fifth place with 47 points, only two points ahead of seventh-placed Tottenham and have two games more than the Red Devils.
United defender from France Raphael Varane has reportedly recovered from Covid-19 and is ready to play. He had missed the Manchester Derby due to a groin and hamstring injury.
However, the move is certainly not easy for MU. Antonio Conte’s squad has just beaten Everton five goals without reply, and kept the opportunity to overtake the Red Devils.
Conte even returned excited to pursue the Champions League zone position after complaining about the inconsistency of The Lilywhites’ game.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane has reminded his squad to stay alert to Manchester United’s game. Moreover, the Red Devils are motivated after suffering a series of bad results, most recently losing in the Manchester derby.
“United are still one of the best teams in the league. It’s clear they have to come back from a disappointing result at the weekend. There’s always a reaction and a revival from their players so we have to make sure we’re ready for that,” Kane said. Goal/OL-5)
