Rows of injured and possibly absent players during the Qatar World Cup

The Qatar 2022 World Cup kicks off in three weeks on 20 November. Held in the middle of the club season, the world’s top stars have to play until a week before the tournament starts.

In the midst of the busy schedule of the club, a number of players were injured. Therefore, they certainly will not appear to defend their country.

In the stronghold of defending champion France, N’Golo Kante certainly absent. The Chelsea defensive midfielder will miss the World Cup after surgery to repair a hamstring problem.

Paul Pogba, who has not played since returning to Juventus this summer, is also a doubt for Qatar. Previously, he had knee surgery. Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says it is highly unlikely that Pogba will play even before the World Cup.

Most recently, Raphael Varane who suffered an ankle injury is expected to recover after the World Cup ended. The 29-year-old centre-back picked up an injury during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

In the England squad, Reece James suffered a knee injury. The Chelsea right-back is a big doubt to be able to appear in Qatar.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is also a doubt after suffering a dislocated shoulder. However, City coach Pep Guardiola is optimistic that his players can be fit in time.

The Brazil squad still has to wait for Richarlison’s development. The Tottenham Hotspur striker picked up a calf injury during Spurs’ game against Everton on 15 October.

In the Portuguese team, Diogo Jota certainly absent. The Liverpool forward suffered a thigh injury when the Reds faced Manchester City on 18 October. (OL-14)
