Simic’s fate at Persija next season is still a question mark

TRAINER Persija Sudirman could not explain the fate of the Croatian striker, Marko Simic, in his team, after not being brought to the BRI Liga 1 2021-2022 final match against PSS in Bali, Thursday (31/3).

“Explaining the matter is not my job. That is management’s job,” Sudirman said in a virtual press conference, after the match.

Simic’s situation at Persija is a question because he has not played for the Kemayoran Tigers since March 6, 2022.

Simic’s last match in BRI Liga 1 2021-2022 was against Persib, March 1, 2022. Even then, he only played for 45 minutes.

Then, in the next seven games in a row, Simic was never again seen playing on the field.

During that time, five times he only sat on the bench and twice was not on the line-up.

In fact, before this condition occurred, Simic was never absent from defending Persija even though he did not appear full in 12 matches.

However, Simic is still listed as Persija’s top scorer in the BRI Liga 1 2021-2022 with 14 goals.

Simic himself has always been a mainstay of Persija since joining in 2018. The 34-year-old striker helped Persija win Liga 1 2018 and became the most fertile player in Liga 1 2019.

In the midst of speculation about his future in the Kemayoran Tiger team, Simic uploaded a riddled sentence on his Instagram account, @markosimic_77 on Thursday (31/3), a few hours before the Persija match against PSS took place.

In the upload, Simic displays a photo of himself in a Persija uniform with the quote, “Good luck my friends! Last game…” or “Good luck, friends! The last game…”.

The final match ended with Persija’s 0-2 defeat of PSS, through goals scored by Dave Mustaine (penalty) and Kim Kurniawan.

The defeat did not affect Persija’s situation in the BRI Liga 1 2021-2022 standings. The Kemayoran Tigers are officially ranked eighth in BRI Liga 1 with 45 points from 34 matches.

Meanwhile for PSS, three points took them away from relegation after collecting a total of 39 points from 34 matches. The Super Eagle Jawa squad is in 13th position in the final standings. (Ant/OL-1)
