Sociedad eyeing Cavani to replace Alex Sorloth

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is currently being linked with La Liga side Real Sociedad who are looking to sign him next summer.

Marca reported, Monday (28/3) Real Sociedad are currently in need of a new striker because Alex Sorloth’s loan period from RB Leipzig will expire at the end of the season.

If Sorloth does leave, Real Sociedad will need a new striker to compete with young forward Alexander Isak if the Swede leaves at the end of the season.

If Isak leaves, Sociedad will need at least two new strikers this summer and delay the promotion of young player, Jon Karrikaburu. Cavani is seen as one of the right attackers to be brought in.

British newspaper The Sun reported on Sunday that Edinson Cavani could very well join Real Sociedad on a free transfer from Manchester United this summer.

After the news emerged from The Sun, several international media also reported the possibility of Cavani joining the Basque club.

The Uruguayan is believed to have the desire to play in the highest caste of the Spanish League after having experience playing in Italy, France and England.

During his career in Europe, Edinson Cavani was recorded as defending several clubs such as Palermo, Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United on a free transfer at the beginning of the 2020/2021 season.

This season, Cavani has made 12 appearances for Manchester United and contributed two goals and one assist. The 35-year-old player still has about two months remaining on his contract with the Red Devils and until now there has been no talk of renewing his contract. (OL-8)
