The CEO of SIC (Sepang International Circuit), Azhan Shafriman Hanif believes that the Malaysian MotoGP, which will be held in October 2022, will be watched live by MotoGP fans. Shafriman even targets that 170,000 people will immediately watch at the Sepang Circuit.

After two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the Malaysian Sepang Circuit is again holding MotoGP. The Sepang Circuit will host the 20th 2022 MotoGP. The Malaysian MotoGP (Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia) will take place from 21-23 October 2022.

“We will present something new, with a focus on interesting experiences for visitors. We will bring something different, but for the details, we will first discuss with the main sponsor Petronas,” said Shafriman quoted from Harian Metro.

If the conditions of the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic subside, Shafriman is optimistic that the Malaysian MotoGP will be watched by many people with the number of spectators as in normal conditions before the pandemic.

“We are targeting the number of spectators to be like the number of attendances before (MotoGP 2022), which is 170,000 people,” he continued. For the record, in 2019, the number of spectators at the Sepang Circuit reached a total of 170,778 people, with 103,850 spectators on race day.

“But this will depend on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which will be set at that time, when we are heading to the endemic transition phase,” he said.

“We are waiting for what will be announced on April 1st. We hope that many visitors can come and we will bring something different and special for them,” continued Shafriman.

In addition to the fading pandemic, another factor that has the potential to be crowded is the Malaysian MotoGP due to its schedule in the second and final MotoGP 2022 series. This means that the MotoGP race at Srikuit Sepang will be exciting because this location could be the determination of the 2022 world title.

“So a lot of people will come to see, follow the championship here, because we are in a unique position, the penultimate series before the closing race of the series in Valencia (Spain),” he said.
