The coach of the Indonesia U-23 national team, Shin Tae-yong, emphasized that his team had no pressure ahead of facing host Vietnam in the opening match of the 2021 SEA Games soccer sport.
Competing at the Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho, Friday (6/5) evening WIB, the Garuda Squad is ready to spread threats to Park Hang-seo’s squad.
This will be the third time that Shin Tae-yong and Park Hang-seo will clash tactics. The two South Korean coaches first clashed tactics in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in June last year. At that time, Indonesia lost 0-4.
In the second meeting, Indonesia could hold Vietnam to a 0-0 draw in the group stage of last year’s AFF Cup. The note did not make Shin Tae-yong flinch. According to him, the players have high motivation to beat Vietnam.
“We have no pressure and feel comfortable to be ready to contribute to this match,” Shin said at a press conference ahead of the match, Thursday (5/5).

The match was also a revenge event for the Garuda Squad in the 2019 SEA Games edition. At that time, Indonesia lost 0-3 in the final.
“After I became the head coach of the Indonesian national team, Vietnam has never won. In terms of ability, Vietnam is indeed better, it must be admitted,” said Shin.
“But at the SEA Games this time, we have added good players from within the country and from Europe. I am very confident that we can achieve better results than Vietnam in the future. The players are also very confident about that,” he continued. .
On the other hand, Shin Tae-yong also highlighted the host factor with the support of the fans which would be an advantage for Vietnam.
However, Shin was quite sure that his team could anticipate it well.
“Indeed, the opponent will act as the host and play on their own field. Of course we will lose more than the opponent,” he explained.
“But this is a sport and if we work hard and perform optimally, we will definitely get lucky. We have to fight that loss to win the game,” said Shin.
Vietnam coach Park Hang-seo understands the current strength of the Indonesia U-23 national team, which is inhabited by players from foreign clubs and reinforced by experienced senior players. The existence of Marc Klok as a naturalized player was also mentioned.
“They have many players who participated in the AFF Cup last year. Including naturalized players, playing abroad such as in the Dutch League, England, South Korea League second division, plus several senior players. I think that the strength of the Indonesian U-23 national team is in this tournament is very strong,” said Hang-seo.
Regarding tactics, Park Hang-seo did not want to guess what strategy the Indonesian national team would implement.
“We don’t know what tactics the Indonesian U-23 National Team will use when they meet Vietnam. We have many options and other options to have a good match against the U-23 Indonesian National Team,” he explained.
Besides Vietnam, Indonesia also has to face Timor Leste, the Philippines, and also Myanmar in Group A.
