Do you still remember the tiny minicab-MiEV electric car that President Joko Widodo tested at the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) exhibition? For those of you who are attracted to the tiny model, please be patient. The reason is, the Minicab-MiEV has not been sold.
While visiting the GIIAS 2021 exhibition, Jokowi had time to try out a Mitsubishi electric car that has not been sold to the public, namely the Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV. Here’s the moment. Photo: Setpres
The car has now been handed over to four companies to conduct a feasibility study of the kei-car class electric commercial vehicle in Indonesia. This collaboration was made possible after PT Misubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Pos Indonesia, PT Haleyora Power, Gojek, and DHL Supply Chain Indonesia, as a continuation of Mitsubishi Motors’ commitment to accelerate the use of electric vehicles. .
Under the terms of the MoU, MMKSI will provide one unit of the Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV, the model currently being sold in the Japanese market for research and utilization, and the partner will use the vehicle for six months in its logistics operations in the Greater area.

This study aims to understand and explore commercial EV applications, by verifying actual usage data, including mileage, charge history and delivery routes. Gojek, for example, will use Minicab-MiEV in joint study activities for more than six months. It is not explained in more detail what study activities will be carried out.
“This joint pilot study collaboration is the latest milestone in the continuation of Mitsubishi Motors’ commitment to accelerate the development of electric cars in Indonesia and the process towards the contribution of zero-emission vehicles by utilizing battery electric vehicles. Regarding the Minicab-MiEV study, our highest appreciation for the leading corporate partner PT Pos Indonesia , PT Haleyora Power, Gojek, and DHL Supply Chain Indonesia, including the Government of Indonesia who with positive enthusiasm support the acceleration of the use of electric vehicles. Through this study we hope to explore more widely the use of Mitsubishi Motors commercial electric vehicle models in Indonesia, “said Naoya Nakamura, President Director of PT MMKSI in a press release.

The Minicab-MiEV specifications that will be used in this joint study are, 4-seater, 2WD. Although small, the distance is quite far, reaching 150 km by carrying a 16 kWh battery capacity.
As a commercial car, the Minicab-MiEV offers a number of advantages. One of them is the reduction of operational costs. The car can also be relied on on narrow roads because of its small turning of 4.3 meters. The Minicab-MiEV is claimed to be suitable for crossing on steep roads thanks to the instant torque of 196 Nm which is channeled from a 30 kW electric motor.
