PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) displayed the Innova EV Concept Study Car concept electric car at the 2022 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) arena for one day (31/3/2022). This is the reason Toyota chose the Innova to make a concept electric car.
As explained by Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Anton Jimmi Suwandy, there are several things that Toyota takes into consideration so that they choose the Innova.
“One thing is certain, the Kijang Innova is a legendary product and a product that always transforms according to people’s needs. And coincidentally, this year’s momentum is right because this year’s Kijang is 45 years old,” Anton said in a virtual discussion, Friday (1/4/ 2022).
Anton continued, explaining that the Kijang is a Toyota product that is very well known in Indonesia, so it is suitable as a concept product such as a concept electric car.
For your information, in 2021 Toyota Indonesia introduced 10 electric cars consisting of 8 HEV vehicles, 1 PHEV vehicle, and 1 Lexus BEV for the Indonesian public.
Toyota Indonesia is also developing electrified vehicles domestically, one of which is preparing the production of HEV vehicles for the domestic market to global consumers.

And at IIMS Hybrid 2022, the Kijang Innova BEV concept study car was introduced, the first in Indonesia. This study project chose the utilization of the Toyota Kijang Innova, which has been known as a legendary Indonesian family car that has a high local content.
The Kijang Innova BEV Concept Study Car project also aims to increase the capabilities of Indonesian engineers and develop the capabilities of national human resources in the field of electrification.
“Through this product, Toyota Indonesia can realize the transfer of knowledge, technological innovation, and capacity building of the automotive industry’s human resources to the entire supply chain to academics in line with the Toyota Indonesia motto We Make People Before We Make Product”.
