Torreira’s goal sends Fiorentina ahead of Bologna

LUCAS Torreira led Fiorentina to a 1-0 win over ten Bologna players despite his two attempts to form the crossbar in the Italian Serie A match between the two teams at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Sunday (13/3)

Roberto Soriano almost gave Bologna the lead in the first minute when his shot hit the crossbar following Riccardo Orsolini’s pass.

Lucas Torreira also lost ground in a decisive moment, while Lukasz Skorupski parried Krzysztof Piatek’s effort with one hand.

Lukasz Skorupski cleared Cristiano Biraghi’s free-kick out of goal, but two disasters hit Bologna within 30 seconds.

Orsolini came out of the offside trap to get past Pietro Terracciano, but his shot hit the post.

Then Fiorentina tried to counter, but Kevin Bonifazi got a second yellow card which saw him sent off.

Skorupski again thwarted Biraghi’s effort, while Bonaventura’s effort bounced over the bar. Lucas Torreira also had to watch his thunderbolt from 20 meters miss the target.

Nicolas Gonzalez had thought he would score in the 68th minute, but his shot was blocked by Bologna’s Lorenzo De Silvestri.

Moments later the goal finally came when Gaetano Castrovilli found Biraghi’s cross for Torreira to score in the 70th minute.

Marco Arnautovic could have equalized from a free kick, but the 1-0 scoreline for the hosts held until the game was over.

This result did not make the two teams move from their position in the Italian League standings, but Fiorentina got an additional three points. Fiorentina are in eighth place with 46 points. Meanwhile, Bologna remains 12th with 33 points. (OL-8)
