Valbuena Says He Has Forgotten The Sex Video Scandal

FORMER France national team midfielder Mathieu Valbuena said Tuesday that he had forgotten about the sex video scandal involving his former team-mate at Les Bleus Karim Benzema.

On Saturday (4/6), Benzema withdrew his appeal against a sentence of one year probation handed down to him last November for his involvement in an attempt to blackmail Valbuena using the sex video in 2015.

Benzema was again called up to the French national team last June after the scandal but Valbuena has not played for Les Bleus for the last seven years.

The 37-year-old midfielder is now playing at Olympiakos after having played for Fenerbahce, Lyon and Dynamo Moscow.

“I have forgotten that after so many years,” Valbuena told RMC Sport.

“I didn’t feel hurt. It was a tough time but I managed to bounce back.”

“I wish my career could end in another way but what happened happened,” continued the former Marseille playmaker.

Benzema is one of five people on trial in a failed blackmail attempt against Valbuena using sex tapes taken from Valbuena’s stolen cell phone.

Benzema is not accused of being involved in the extortion attempt but of conspiring to ensure Valbuena pays the demands of the blackmailers. (AFP/OL-1)
