Why did Wuling choose Almaz to be a hybrid car?

Jakarta

Wuling Motors officially introduced its first hybrid car based on the Almaz SUV. Of course, this is an interesting strategy, because its competitor from the Japanese manufacturer, Toyota, prefers the Innova MPV base to be a hybrid car. Then why did Wuling choose Almaz?

As explained by Wuling Motors’ Brand & Marketing Director, Dian Asmahani, Wuling deliberately chose Almaz to be transplanted with a hybrid engine because this SUV model is considered the right figure.

“Because we don’t want to just talk about the environment. But also exciting performance. So we hope that Almaz can provide all of that,” said Dian to reporters at the International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC), Ancol, Jakarta, Thursday (3/03). 11/2022).

Dian continued, adding that currently Almaz is the most suitable model to be injected with electrification technology. However, it is possible for Wuling MPV models such as the Cortez and Confero to be embedded with similar hybrid technology.

“One by one, yes. Right now it is Almaz first, because we are researching, we think this is the right market for hybrids right now, for Wuling products.

“Wuling wants the long term. So in the future there will be many new products launched. Whether it’s modifications or innovations from current products, or new products,” added Dian.

Wuling Almaz Hybrid carries a gasoline engine with a 4-cylinder configuration, 2,000 cc. The engine produces a maximum power of 123 hp and a peak torque of 168 Nm. In addition, there is also an electric motor that can produce 174 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

This environmentally friendly car is equipped with a Ternary Lithium battery with a capacity of 1.8 kWh. Wuling Almaz uses a front drive system that is transmitted by Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

Wuling Almaz Hybrid applies Multi-mode Hybrid Performance which consists of EV Mode, Series Hybrid, and also Hybrid Parallel. In EV Mode, the wheels are driven by an electric motor that draws electrical energy from the Ternary Lithium battery.

Meanwhile, in Series Hybrid mode, the wheels are still driven by an electric motor, but the gasoline engine operates to charge the battery through a motor generator.

Maximum performance is produced in Parallel Hybrid mode where the gasoline engine and electric motor operate to produce wheel drive power simultaneously. This system works automatically according to battery conditions, power requirements, and road conditions.
