The bad news hit Toyota Motor Corp. After a few months ago it had cut its vehicle production, now Toyota has again reduced the number of car production to as much as 150,000 units.
Quoted from Carscoops, Toyota plans to produce as many as 750,000 to 800,000 vehicles in April. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer has targeted the production of as many as 900,000 vehicles per month.
Toyota admits that the factor in cutting car production cannot be separated from the scarce supply of semiconductor chips, the risk of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, to a number of other factors. As a result, Toyota had to reduce its production target for three months, starting from April to June 2022.
“By doing this, we will strive to build a healthy workplace environment so that we can place safety and quality as the highest priority, rather than exceeding production capacity, thereby encouraging people to work overtime and work overtime,” Toyota said in a statement.

“We will inform our suppliers about the risk plan for reducing production and other factors for the next three months. We also review production plans every month and three months, and share Toyota’s plans going forward with suppliers,” he explained.
This now has an impact on various vehicle models produced at a number of factories in Japan. Starting from the Toyota Corolla Sport and Toyota Camry, which were trimmed at the Tsutsumi factory, to the Lexus LS, IS, RC, RC F, and NX models which were also trimmed at the Tahara factory.
Previously, in January, Toyota also cut car production in Japan to 65,000 units. This was done due to the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 transmission among workers, which hampered the supply of spare parts. Not to mention coupled with the lack of supply of semiconductors.
In addition, Toyota also reduced the number of car production in March. Initially, Toyota’s global car production in March 2022 was targeted to reach 950 thousand units, unfortunately that figure then had to be cut again to 100 thousand units.
Although car production has been cut again, Toyota has maintained its production target for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, to reach 8.5 million vehicles.
